Singlewell Primary School
Roles & Responsibilities
Having clear roles and responsibilities in primary school helps children develop important life skills such as teamwork, independence, and accountability. When students are given roles, like being a member of school council, a Reading or Maths mentor, a playground buddy or house captain they learn to take ownership of their actions and understand how their contributions support the whole school. These experiences build confidence, encourage respect for others, and lay the foundation for responsible behaviour both in and outside the classroom.
Head Pupils

Meet Hattie and Frankie, our new Head Pupils!
and introducing Viram, a new role - our very first
Deputy Head Pupil

They are very responsible Year 6 pupils who were elected to be Singlewell's
Head & Deputy Head Pupils.
At Singlewell, it is essential to teach our Year 6s that as the oldest in school, they are role models to the other children and therefore are first in line for certain responsibilities.
We wanted Pupils who would embody our CARES values at all times.
All Year 6 pupils received a description of what the role of Head Pupil involves and had the opportunity to apply. Many pupils wrote their applications, which all staff viewed and shortlisted. The finalists then presented why they would be best suited for the role in large assemblies and the children voted for who they wanted to be led by.
Hattie: I am very proud to be Singlewell's new Head Girl as it is my final year here. I would love to give something back to the school and to use this as an amazing way to end my primary school life. Every day, I look forward to the new things ahead and I can't wait for all of the new fun adventures whilst being Head Girl."
Frankie: "I would like to represent our school. I cannot wait to meet to introduce myself to the Governors and other visitors & impress them with what I can do. I love Singlewell because they treat me with respect and I love looking after the younger children."
Viram: As Deputy Head Pupil I look forward to representing all of our CARES values. I am looking forward to being a positive role model to the other children. I am looking forward to sharing my ideas and to make our school a better place."
The School Council represents the voice of the pupils and helps make the school a better place for everyone. Made up of elected representatives from each class, the council meets regularly to discuss ideas, concerns, and suggestions from their classmates. They work with teachers and school leaders to improve different aspects of school life, such as playground equipment, events, and fundraising activities.

Year 6 Library Monitors
A Year 6 Library Monitor helps to keep the school library organised, welcoming, and enjoyable for all pupils. Their duties often include shelving and tidying books, helping peers find suitable reading material and promoting good library habits. They also encourage a love of reading across the school. As trusted members of the school community, Library Monitors demonstrate responsibility, teamwork, and enthusiasm for books while supporting others in developing their reading interests and skills.

Year 6 Playground Buddies
Playground Buddies play an important role in supporting our younger pupils during lunchtime. Trained older children help to encourage inclusive play, organise simple games and provide a friendly face for younger pupils who may need support in making friends or joining in activities. Their kindness and leadership help to create a positive, safe and enjoyable playground environment where all children feel valued, included & safe.
